The Irish Schools Climbing Competition 2023
With a growing number of schools regularly participating in indoor climbing activities and with the inclusion of indoor climbing in the 2020 Olympics – we have established a national event for youth climbers to engage with our sport in an exciting environment!
In 2022 Awesome Walls Dublin welcomed over 80 schools from all over Ireland and Northern Ireland and 100s of pupils to the 5th annual National Schools Climbing Competition – this year we’re ready to receive even more competitors to this Awesome event!
With a format that encourages participation and teamwork – this event is ideal for both complete beginners looking to try something adventurous and experienced youth climbers hoping to secure the national title for their school!
This year’s format allows schools to select a convenient date and time to suit their availability within a two-week window from Monday 6th to Friday 17th March.
Qualification rounds will take place in Cork and Dublin and can be booked below
A fun and great atmosphere are guaranteed regardless of age or climbing experience!
Primary – 1st & 2nd Class
Primary – 3rd & 4th Class
Primary – 5th & 6th Class
Secondary – Junior Cert
Secondary – TY & Leaving Cert
We have formatted this year’s competition to help make the event fun for kids and easy for their parents and teachers – all with an ethos that encourages participation and team work.
This event is designed for both complete beginners looking to try something adventurous and for experienced youth climbers hoping to secure the national title for their school!
To help create a positive experience and friendly environment for kids, the competition is primarly a team competition therefore each team must meet the following criteria:
- Consist of 4 Climbers.
- Team members must compete in the same category.
- Teams can be single or mixed gender.
Schools can field as many teams as they wish.
Individual Participation
The Main Team event is accompanied by an individual competitor ranking allowing smaller groups or individuals keen to compete a chance to represent their school.
If you booked as an individual, you will join another group for your session to ensure you have some moral support but all climbs will be individually scored.

Grand Final
The two highest scoring teams and individuals from each category in both Dublin and Cork will be invited to compete in the Grand Final in Awesome Walls Dublin on April 27th.
